Good Standing
The Abyssinian is extremely intelligent, very active cat as well as very social. They bond closely with their person and want to be involved in everything that person is doing. The Abyssinian even as an adult is playful and intersperses periods of frenetic activity and total relaxation.
The Look
Abyssinians are medium in size, not at all cobby nor oriental, but very muscular and elegant. They stand high on their toes. The fir is ticked, having three to four bands of color, with a full undercoat. The coat is lustrous and very resilient springing back when stroked. The stomach, chest, and inside of legs are of a color to complement the ticked coat.
It has moderately large ears which are tilted forward in a listening posture giving the whole cat a very alert appearance. The tail is broad at the base and tapers to a point which is the color of the darkest ticking of the cat.
The overall impression of the ideal Abyssinian is a medium to large cat, regal in appearance. Males are proportionately larger than females. The Abyssinian shows firm muscle tone and is lithe and panther-like in activity showing a lively interest in all surroundings. The coat of the Abyssinian has an iridescent quality reflecting warmth of color giving the impression of a colorful cat. Coat pattern is genetically a form of agouti ticking with even dark colored ticking contrasted with lighter bands of color. The evenness of the ticking and the lighter colored bands give a translucent effect. Although rarely seen today some Abyssinians may exhibit ear tufts, “thumb print” markings on the back of the ears or darker colored hocks. The Abyssinian is of sound health and vigor, physically well balanced, and amenable to handling.
For Your Consideration
Will you be able to laugh instead of getting angry while continuously picking up your prized possesions? You could find yourself laughing a lot you know! Possessions such as collectables or breakables become less important when decorating your home when you add an active cat.
Can you handle company in the bathroom while bathing, showering, shaving or brushing your teeth? How about a cat that feels toilet lids should remain closed or that it may be fun to flush the toilet, repeatedly.
How about Paw Prints, can you handle them on all your furniture or any other surface that can be walked on...Kitty signatures don't you know. You will find your kitchen cabinets or pantry always open and your fridge magnets missing. The poor family Dog will never get any sleep because they LOVE to pester him/her. Lets not forget that no toe is safe under a blanket.
So, if you like highly active; intelligent animals that can often times outsmart their care giver and you can ignore flying felines that sail through the air faster than a speeding bullet or a flying UFO. And let's not forget an affectionate spoiled brat that DEMANDS your undivided attention who's little motor just keeps going and going and going and...............If your ready for all of this and more then this breed is for you.
